Nitrogen levels impact grain size in barley, affecting crop yield.
Grain size in malting barley is influenced by genetics and nitrogen levels. A study looked at different barley genotypes and nitrogen fertilization rates over three years. They found that 'Novosadski 456' had the highest percentage of large grains, while 'Dunavac' had more medium and small grains. Increasing nitrogen up to 75 kg ha-1 led to more large grains, but too much nitrogen decreased their size. Overall, 'Novosadski 456' did best with 75 kg ha-1 of nitrogen.
