Sudan's Taggar goats driving economic growth and food security in Africa.
Goats are important for food production in developing countries, with Sudan having a large goat population. Sudan ranks second in cattle numbers in Africa and first in the Arab world. The country has 138 million animals, including 42 million goats. Most of these goats are used for meat, with different breeds found across Sudan. The majority of goats are raised in traditional pastoral systems, while some are in urban or commercial settings. The livestock sector contributes significantly to Sudan's economy, making up 20-25% of the Gross National Product.
