Lateral wedges improve postural sway in Parkinson's patients, enhancing stability.
People with Parkinson's disease often struggle with balance issues. This study looked at how standing on wedge-shaped platforms affects their balance. Twenty-two patients with Parkinson's disease took part in the study. They stood on a force plate with or without a wedge under their feet, and with their eyes open or closed. The results showed that standing on the wedge improved their balance, especially when their eyes were closed. This means that using lateral wedges can help people with Parkinson's disease to sway less when standing still.
