Extreme temperatures worsen water pollution in China's Taihu Lake.
The research looked at how weather affects water pollution in Taihu Lake Basin during 2011. By comparing meteorological data with pollution levels of COD, NH3-N, and DO in the lake, they found that rainfall has little impact on water quality. Instead, high temperatures can affect pollution levels, especially in heavily polluted areas. Surprisingly, in the most polluted places, the connection between temperature and pollution weakens or disappears altogether. So, weather plays a role in the water pollution levels seen in the lake.
