One Database to Rule Them All: Seamless Cross-Model Data Access Unlocks New Possibilities
In this study, a multi-model and multi-lingual database system was developed to let users work with different types of databases using familiar database models and languages. Users can create and manage databases using relational, hierarchical, network, or object-oriented models and languages, all in one system. Surprisingly, users can even work with one type of database as if it was another type! For example, you can use a relational database approach and SQL commands to handle a hierarchical database. This new ability is called the cross-model accessing capability. The researchers successfully implemented and tested this system, supporting relational, hierarchical, network, and object-oriented models with their languages.
