Increasing the number of tobacco plants per area can reduce the nicotine content in the leaves. This was shown in experiments with different plant populations, where higher plant numbers led to lighter leaves with less nicotine, especially in the upper leaves. This means that by adjusting the plant population, tobacco with lower nicotine levels and better quality can be grown.
