ZrB2 coatings of different thicknesses were applied to C/SiC composites to test their resistance to high heat. Thinner coatings of 10 ”m showed the best protection, reducing ablation rates by 38% and 61%. Thicker coatings led to cracks and defects, lowering their effectiveness. The coatings formed thermal barriers that shielded the inner part from further damage during testing.
