New pesticide boosts sorghum growth but harms soybean crops.
The study looked at how a chemical called AC 94,377 affects the growth of young grain sorghum plants and other crops. They found that using higher concentrations of AC 94,377 made the sorghum plants taller. However, the emergence and weight of the sorghum plants were not affected. Plants grown from seeds without protective coatings were taller and heavier than those with coatings. Soybean plants were harmed by AC 94,377 in the soil, but only if planted within a week of applying the chemical. Cotton plants were not harmed by AC 94,377.
