Wheat farmers rejoice: New disease-resistant cultivars could boost crop yields and food security
The study tested different types of winter wheat to see how they respond to a disease called powdery mildew. They found that the resistant and partially resistant wheat varieties had less disease compared to the susceptible variety. The weather also affected how severe the disease was. The third leaf from the top was the most affected in all wheat varieties. Overall, the resistant wheat had the least amount of disease, followed by the partially resistant wheat, and then the susceptible wheat.
