A natural wetland in New Zealand was studied to see how well it removes nitrogen from agricultural runoff. The researchers used a model to track nitrogen levels in the wetland over two years. They found that the wetland reduced nitrogen loads by around 50-70%, even during heavy rain. This shows that natural wetlands can help clean up water contaminated with nitrogen from farms.
