Zero Tillage and Residue Retention Boost Wheat Growth and Soil Health
A study looked at how different farming practices affect wheat growth and soil health. They tested different ways of tilling the soil, managing crop residues, and applying nitrogen. The results showed that using zero tillage and keeping crop residues improved wheat growth and soil microbes. Wheat plants were taller and had more leaves and biomass when zero tillage was combined with crop residues. Adding 25% more nitrogen than recommended also helped plants grow better and improved soil microbes. So, using zero tillage, keeping crop residues, and adding extra nitrogen can make wheat plants healthier and improve the soil.
