Shade boosts antioxidants in red rice, potential health benefits skyrocket!
Shade can affect the levels of chlorophyll and anthocyanin in upland red rice. The study found that different levels of shade, types of rice, and their interaction all had a significant impact on the chlorophyll and anthocyanin content. Overall, shade increased chlorophyll levels in all rice types tested. The highest levels of chlorophyll a were seen in moderate shade, while chlorophyll b increased linearly with increasing shade. Anthocyanin content also increased with shade, with the Jangkobembe rice type showing the highest increase. In conclusion, shade has a notable effect on the chlorophyll and anthocyanin content of upland red rice.
