Crop Waste Transformed into Renewable Fuel with Ionic Liquid Pretreatment
Cotton stalks were treated with a chemical called [Bmim]Cl to see how it affects the structure and sugar content. The best conditions for treatment were a high liquid to solid ratio, high temperature, and a long duration. The treated cotton stalk produced more sugar than untreated ones. The [Bmim]Cl treatment created pores and cracks in the stalk, making it easier to break down. The chemical could be reused multiple times without losing its effectiveness.
