Proximity to Industry Clusters Boosts Startups but Hurts Established Firms
This study looks at how the location of businesses affects how well they do in different stages of their existence. The researchers say that where a company is based not only matters for its own success but also depends on what's happening in nearby areas. They studied the telecom equipment industry in Canada and found that being near other thriving business areas can help a place start more new companies when the industry is growing. However, it can also be tough for existing firms and might hinder new ventures when the industry is going through tough times. So, being close to successful business clusters can be good but may also bring challenges depending on how the industry is doing overall.
