Utilities can now better estimate water use for businesses, reducing waste.
The research aimed to figure out how much water commercial, industrial, and institutional places use. Traditionally, the number of employees was used to estimate water usage, but it's not very precise. To tackle this, a new method based on building size and other data was created. They looked at 3,172 properties in Florida and found the typical and maximum water use per heated area. By studying each property separately, they got a better idea of how water is used in these places. This could help make smarter choices about saving water in these sectors.
