Snowmobile use affects snowpack properties differently depending on the depth of the snow. Thinner snow accumulations are more impacted by snowmobile use, leading to denser and harder snow. When snowmobile use starts in deeper snow conditions, there is less change in snow density, hardness, and resistance. This research was conducted in Colorado to understand how snowmobile use affects snowpack properties, which has implications for managing snowmobile use in areas with shallow snow where natural resources could be affected.
