New technology predicts soil properties for precision farming success.
The researchers studied how soil electrical conductivity can help map important soil properties for farming. They used instruments to measure soil conductivity in fields in the Czech Republic in 2013 and 2016. By analyzing soil samples, they found that the electrical conductivity was most closely linked to the amount of clay in the soil. Other factors like nutrient levels and pH were less consistently related to conductivity. Overall, the study suggests that measuring soil electrical conductivity on-the-go can help identify different zones within fields, but may not always predict specific soil properties accurately.
