Strawberry Growers Rejoice: Drip Irrigation Boosts Yields and Saves Water
In a two-year study, different ways of watering strawberries were tested to see how they affect plant growth, fruit yield, and quality. They tried drip irrigation (where water is given drop by drop) and furrow irrigation (where water flows in channels). Drip irrigation at 120% of the needed water helped strawberries grow taller, have more leaves, and give more fruit compared to other watering levels. These well-watered strawberries were bigger, sweeter, and juicier. Even though watering them a bit less (at 100% of what they needed) still gave good results, using this method saved 16% of water. This means they were tall, had more fruit, and used water more efficiently when given just the right amount of water through drip irrigation.
