Wastewater treatment breakthrough slashes pollution, cuts costs for cities worldwide.
The researchers tested a method using electricity to clean up wastewater from a sewage treatment plant. They found that by using specific settings like current density, operating time, and electrode type, they could remove a high percentage of harmful pollutants like COD and BOD. The best results were achieved with certain conditions, like a certain amount of time and electrode size. The process didn't need any pH adjustments because it worked well at a neutral pH. Overall, the cost of this method was calculated to be around 54.29 Rs./m3 or 1.08 US$/m3.
