New risk matrix reveals top causes of severe motorcycle crashes.
The goal of the research was to identify the most common and severe types of motorcycle crashes to help prioritize safety measures. The researchers created a risk matrix based on crash sequences to analyze the data. They found that the top five most frequent and severe crash sequences accounted for 23% of all motorcycle crashes studied. These included crashes like running off the road and hitting objects, crossing medians, left-turn collisions, intersection accidents, and side impacts.
