Precision Farming Breakthrough: Mapping Soil Secrets Boosts Crop Yields on Sandy Soils
The study looked at how cereal yields are related to soil properties on sandy soil in Poland. They tested wheat, barley, and oats over three years. By using spatial statistics, they found that most soil properties and crop yields were closely linked. The distance at which data were related varied, with crop yields having a range of 24.3-58.5m and soil properties ranging from 10.5-373m. Maps created using kriging showed areas with low yields and specific soil properties like cation exchange capacity and organic carbon content. This information can help farmers improve soil quality in specific areas of their fields.
