Urbanization Threatens Water Quality in Korean Limnology Research.
The article analyzed over 1,500 studies on Korean limnology from 1968 to 2017. They looked at the main topics studied, where the research was conducted, and how researchers collaborated. The major subjects included water quality, phytoplankton, invertebrates, and fish. Studies in the 1970s and 1980s focused on flora, fauna, and freshwater species experiments, while topics like production, behavior, modeling, and ecological assessment increased in the 1990s. Most studies covered both flowing and still water, but invertebrates and fish were more studied in flowing water. Research sites were mainly in urban river channels and artificial lakes, with fewer in natural areas. Collaboration among researchers and institutions has been growing as more studies are published.
