New soil erosion models better predict tropical land degradation risks.
The researchers studied how well erosion prediction models work on tropical soils in Southwestern Nigeria. They compared two models, USLE and WEPP, on four different soil types. The results showed that the WEPP models were more accurate in predicting soil erosion for these tropical soils than the USLE models. The WEPP models had a perfect relationship with the soil properties of the soils studied, while the USLE models did not match up as well. This suggests that the WEPP models are better suited for predicting soil erosion in tropical environments.
