Microgravity study reveals key to faster crystal growth in space!
Researchers grew InxGa1−xSb crystals from different planes of GaSb in space to study how they dissolve and grow. They found that the dissolution shape doesn't change with orientation, even when the rate varies. The growth rate of (1 1 0) crystals was in between (1 1 1)B and (1 1 1)A. The way the crystals grow is mostly influenced by how they dissolve, creating a concentration difference in the liquid.
