A study was conducted to improve pigeonpea productivity in intercropping systems. Pigeonpea + turmeric had the highest yield and efficiency. Pigeonpea + sesame and pigeonpea + urdbean had the best benefit: cost ratios. Using 125% of recommended fertilizer increased yield and profits. Pigeonpea + mungbean and pigeonpea + urdbean improved soil quality. Overall, nutrient management and intercropping can enhance pigeonpea productivity under rainfed conditions.
