Remote sensing data was used to study how the environment and land cover in a copper mining area in Central Kazakhstan changed over time. The researchers analyzed images from different years to see how the mining activities affected the area. They found that the copper mining area and settlements expanded significantly, while the vegetation cover decreased. The water bodies remained relatively stable. This study shows how remote sensing can help monitor environmental changes in mining areas.
