India is mostly rural but becoming more urban. The cities are growing evenly in size and location, not just the big ones. Small towns are also growing fast. Many people in small towns and the Indo-Gangetic valley work in low-intensity jobs. Urban growth is mainly from natural city growth, not just people moving from rural areas. Seasonal migration and daily commuting between rural and urban areas also help cities grow.
