Climate Change Threatens Water Supplies, Ecosystems in Lake Kyoga Region
The study looked at how climate change affects water resources in Lake Kyoga. By analyzing weather data and models, the researchers found that climate change is making the water levels in Lake Kyoga go down by 6%. Wet seasons may get 10-20% more rain, leading to increased stream flow, while dry seasons could see a drop in rain by 20-40%. By 2065, temperatures are expected to increase by 1-3°C. This change could happen faster for minimum temperatures compared to maximum temperatures. The study suggests that climate change impacts are already reducing water levels, and they recommend adaptation and mitigation strategies for the future.
