Optimal sowing depth boosts wheat yield in South Asia's dry season.
In South Asia, including Bangladesh, the depth at which wheat seeds are sown affects plant growth and yield. A two-year study found that sowing wheat seeds at a depth of 4 cm resulted in the highest number of seedlings, tallest plants, and largest roots. This depth also led to the best grain yield, straw yield, and harvest index. Sowing at depths of 4 or 6 cm performed better than sowing at 2 or 8 cm. Therefore, for successful wheat cultivation in South Asia, a sowing depth of 4 to 6 cm is recommended.
