Groundwater depletion threatens Cedar Creek Watershed, Wisconsin's water security.
Groundwater in the Cedar Creek Watershed, Wisconsin, was studied to see how human activities, climate changes, and Lake Michigan levels affect it. The aquifer model showed that groundwater levels dropped towards Lake Michigan, with some variation near streams. During a drought in 2012, it took 3-4 months for the aquifer to recover. Changes in recharge affected groundwater levels across the area, but Lake Michigan had a small impact. Some streams in the watershed may dry up, and adjusting the model for this led to lower groundwater levels.
