Intercropping pigeonpea with maize boosts yields and profits for farmers.
Researchers conducted a field experiment to determine the best way to grow pigeonpea with other crops and how much nutrients to use. They found that planting pigeonpea with maize fodder at a spacing of 50 × 25 cm gave the highest yield. Applying 100% of the recommended nutrients to the intercrop also increased the yield significantly. This planting pattern and nutrient level combination resulted in higher profits and income compared to other methods tested. Overall, using the right planting pattern and nutrient levels can help farmers increase their yields and make more money from their crops.
