Climate change drastically reduces pasture yields in Mongolia's diverse ecological zones.
The study looked at how different types of plants grow in Mongolia's grasslands. They found that the amount of grass available for sheep to eat varies depending on the area. In high mountain zones, 39 sheep can graze comfortably in one hectare, while in forest steppe areas, 72 sheep can graze in the same space. The researchers also discovered that the amount of grass produced can change a lot during dry periods, with up to a 55% reduction in some areas. This is important because it shows how climate change can affect the amount of food available for animals in different parts of Mongolia. It suggests that we need to manage the grasslands carefully to make sure there is enough food for the animals living there.
