Ferric chloride was used to remove natural organic matter from water. By adjusting the pH and amount of ferric chloride, researchers found the best conditions to remove these substances and reduce the formation of harmful trihalomethanes. The study showed that specific pH levels and ferric chloride dosages can effectively clean water without creating trihalomethanes.
