Optimal nitrogen fertilization and seeding rate boost winter wheat grain yield.
The study aimed to understand how nitrogen fertilization and seeding rate affect the growth and yield of winter wheat. By conducting field experiments in China, researchers found that using 225 kg of nitrogen per hectare and a seeding rate of 225 seeds per square meter resulted in the highest grain yield. This combination increased the amount of nitrogen and organic matter transferred to the grain after flowering, leading to better yields. Additionally, nitrogen from fertilizer was more easily transferred to the grain compared to nitrogen from the soil. Overall, the study suggests that using specific nitrogen levels and seeding rates can improve wheat yield in certain regions.
