Optimizing Chickpea Spacing Boosts Yield and Harvest Efficiency in Ethiopia
The spacing between chickpea plants in a field affects how many seeds they produce and how much they weigh. In a study in western Ethiopia, researchers found that wider spaces between rows led to more seeds per pod and heavier seeds. They also discovered that increasing the distance between plants within a row resulted in taller plants, more branches, and more pods per plant. The best combination of row and plant spacing for the highest yield was 30cm between rows and 10cm or 15cm between plants. This information can help farmers optimize their chickpea crop yields in similar growing conditions.
