New wind assessment method boosts accuracy for predicting energy production.
The researchers compared different methods for estimating wind speed and direction to assess wind resources. They found that the Modified Energy Pattern Factor (MEPF) method is a good alternative to the commonly used Weibull distribution. The MEPF method does not require complex calculations and provides accurate results. They also compared the von Mises distribution to the Kato-Jones distribution for wind direction assessment and found that the latter is more effective. This study can help in predicting wind energy production and optimizing wind energy harnessing in different regions, including India.
