Conservation tillage boosts soil carbon storage in Mediterranean region.
Long-term tillage systems affect how soil organic carbon is stored in the eastern Mediterranean region of Turkey. Different tillage methods were tested over several years, and it was found that conservation tillage systems help keep carbon in the soil surface, while conventional tillage systems store more carbon deeper in the soil. Aggregates in the soil were more stable under conservation tillage, leading to better carbon storage. Overall, conservation tillage methods are better for preserving soil health and carbon storage in this region.
