Constructed wetland system removes pollutants from pig farm wastewater, improving water quality.
Pig farm wastewater in Mexico is causing pollution in water sources. Scientists tested a wetland system to clean the water. The wetland had three parts and used specific plants and rocks. They tested different levels of pollutants and how long the water stayed in the wetland. The results showed that the wetland removed a lot of pollutants, especially with lower levels of pollutants and longer water retention times. This means the wetland can clean the water well enough for irrigation, but not with high levels of pollutants.
