High fertilizer levels boost little millet yield and profit significantly.
The researchers studied how different levels of fertilizers affect the growth and yield of little millet plants. They tested various combinations of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium on the plants in a field experiment. The results showed that using 30 kg of nitrogen, 20 kg of phosphorus, and 10 kg of potassium per hectare led to taller plants, more leaves, tillers, and higher total dry matter accumulation. This combination also resulted in better yield parameters like more productive tillers, longer panicles, more grains per panicle, and higher test weight. Ultimately, applying 30:20:10 kg of NPK per hectare gave the highest grain and straw yields, as well as higher profit, making it the most economically feasible option among those tested.
