Tillage and liming practices impact soil structure and crop production.
The researchers studied how different soil management methods affect the structure of a silty clay soil. They used X-ray tomography to look at soil samples from fields with different treatments. They found that conventional tillage and reduced tillage didn't show significant differences in soil structure, but fallow soil had more connected vertical pores. Liming may not have had a big impact on soil structure in this study, and its effects might have faded over time. Further research is needed to understand how lime affects clay soil.
