Innovative Wetland System Cleans Rural Sewage, Meets China's Discharge Standards.
A wetland system was built to clean up sewage from rural homes in southern China. Different materials were used to trap pollutants in the water. Plants were also added to help clean the water. The system could treat 2 cubic meters of sewage a day. After a year of testing, it was found to remove solid particles and certain pollutants very well. However, some pollutants were not removed as effectively. The system worked better in warmer weather and needed to have sludge removed regularly to keep working well.
