Eating crops from former mining areas may pose serious health risks.
The study looked at metal levels in crops grown in a former mining area in Romania to see if they could be harmful to people who eat them. They found that the levels of cadmium, copper, and zinc in the crops were safe, but the amount of lead was too high in some vegetables, which could be bad for health. Overall, the risk of health problems from eating these crops was highest for lead, followed by cadmium, copper, and zinc. This shows that eating crops from contaminated soil could be risky for human health.
