Landfill leachate treatment breakthrough: 99% nitrogen removal efficiency achieved!
A new method was developed to clean up nitrogen from landfill wastewater efficiently. By using a special process that combines different reactions and a recycling system, researchers were able to remove almost all the nitrogen from the wastewater. The treated water had very low nitrogen levels, and the process worked well for a long time. The bacteria that helped with the cleaning were identified as Nitrosomonas, Candidatus Kuenenia, and Candidatus Brocadia.
