New A-CAES System Boosts Efficiency and Cuts Costs for Energy Storage.
Adiabatic compressed air energy storage (A-CAES) systems are being improved to be more efficient and cost-effective. By optimizing the operation pressures of different components, researchers have increased the system's round trip efficiency by 4.41%, decreased the total investment cost by 4.55%, and increased the profit by 8.91% compared to traditional A-CAES systems. This means the new A-CAES design is better at storing and releasing energy while being more affordable to build.
