Revolutionizing Rice Production: Integrated Nitrogen Boosts Yields on Ghanaian Vertisols
Rice production in Ghana can be increased by using different nitrogen sources and soil management methods. A study conducted at the University of Ghana found that alternating wetting and drying the soil produced similar rice yields as continuously flooded soil. Using a combination of urea and compost fertilizer resulted in the highest grain yield and nitrogen use efficiency. Composting crop residues after harvest can improve soil quality and increase rice productivity.
