Thiamine, a vital vitamin for plants, was studied in oil palm seedlings. When treated with thiamine, the gene responsible for thiamine production decreased by five times. Thiamine levels dropped, but its active form, TPP, increased after treatment. This shows that thiamine production in oil palm can be controlled by adding the vitamin at the right levels.
