Strong onshore winds cause unexpected decrease in friction velocity at high speeds.
The study looked at how wind direction affects how fast wind moves close to the ground. They used data from a tower near the coast during strong winds. They found that wind speed usually makes the wind move faster, but sometimes it can slow down when the wind blows directly towards the shore. This slowing down might be because of big waves in the sea. They also found that looking at wind data every minute gives a good idea of how fast the wind is moving.
