New method predicts ground deformation during pipe-jacking for safer construction.
Pipe-jacking is a common method for building pipelines, but predicting ground deformation caused by it is crucial for safety. This study developed a method to forecast ground deformation during pipe-jacking by considering factors like thrust, friction, grouting pressure, and ground loss. By using various mathematical solutions, the researchers created a three-dimensional model to predict ground deformation accurately. A case study in China confirmed that this approach is reliable and can be used for future pipe-jacking projects.
