Farmland erosion threatens water supply and infrastructure in Ethiopian watershed.
The study looked at how the land in Ashebeka watershed in Ethiopia is being eroded by water runoff, mainly from farmland. They found that a large amount of excess water is flowing from the watershed, causing soil erosion and sedimentation in rivers and reservoirs. The erosion rates were highest in settlements and farmland, leading to negative impacts on infrastructure, crops, and water sources. The researchers suggest that building soil and water conservation structures in the watershed could help reduce these problems.
