Gamma Irradiated Sodium Alginate Boosts Plant Growth Dramatically!
Gamma irradiated sodium alginate was tested on malabar spinach and spinach plants to see if it could help them grow better. The sodium alginate was exposed to different levels of radiation, then diluted and applied to the plants. The plants that received the irradiated sodium alginate showed increased growth compared to those that didn't. For malabar spinach, the best results were seen with sodium alginate irradiated at 12 kGy, while for spinach, the most growth was observed with sodium alginate irradiated at 20 kGy. The irradiated sodium alginate had lower viscosity and molecular weight as the radiation dose increased. Overall, the plants treated with irradiated sodium alginate had higher dry matter, plant height, root length, and number of leaves than the control plants.
